My Debut Article @ VIVID MAGAZINE

About a fortnight ago, I was approached by the Head of the lifestyle section of the recently launched "Vivid Magazine" (An Online Lifestyle Magazine), for being one of their guest writers. Yesterday I submitted my debut article for publication in their magazine. It's about the recently issued illegal diktat by a Khap panchayat in U.P. It's titled  'A Farce Called Khap' .

Later in the evening, I was informed that their editorial board had accepted my article. It was published this morning. As I read it, I joyfully discovered that not a single line from the original version has been edited.

Thank You Vivid for showcasing my work.

As always the valuable views and reviews of my esteemed readers will be significant.

 A FARCE CALLED ‘KHAP’

  1. Excellent post. These self-styled lawmakers have no business imposing restrictions on the fundamental rights of any citizen... woman or man. Trouble is, political parties do everything for votes, and hence are afraid to 'disrupt the peace' with these khaps. Sad state of affairs.

    1. to Disgusting levels we have stooped...anyways...everything is so chaotic these days that it won't be shocking if one day there'll be something like a French Revolution happening in our country

Believe me Indu ji when I say this, the law has given tremendous powers to Police and if once it garners the requisite will, it can send these monkeys to zoos where they actually belong, but then Police will act only under instruction from their Political bosses who in turn will beg these Panchayats for votes, hence nothing is happening to these self styled Gods of villages.

  7. As usual. it is a well-penned article. However, the word 'farce' is a misnomer. I would rather call them mercenaries of death.

  8. Hi Anupam,
Things can change only if people take note of such regressive practices and raise their voice against it. Well done!:)

  9. I am glad that you wrote about this, and I am glad that it is news. It will be a very sad day if this became so commonplace that it no longer became news.
In the article, you wrote, "Hence what they are doing is outright illegal." It does not matter whether what they are doing is legal or illegal. If an elected or recognized government did this, then it would be legal. However, in both and all cases, what they were doing was immoral.

    1. Mr. Fernandez,

I'm deeply delighted that you devoted your valuable time to read my debut article. It's quite reassuring to know from my esteemed readers that the article has echoed what most of us think.

About the line ""Hence what they are doing is outright illegal", while I agree with you that their acts are indubitably immoral, I respectfully differ from you when you say that when an illegal Govt. will do this it will be legal. I think I've mentioned the grounds on which these acts violate well established laws of our country. No deal of popular victory, nor anything else can mandate the violation of these laws. They are sacred and inviolable. Hence I just wish to reiterate that the diktats of these 'Khap Panchayats' are clearly illegal and attract strict penal consequences.

While morality may be persuasive, it isn't binding, law is. Hence a person may get away with an immoral deed but he can't with an illegal act.

      Thanks for reading !!

  17. Hi Anupam

Congratulations! That is a huge achievement. Wishing you more success.

You have presented the issue quite lucidly ... the article brings to light one of the adhoc practices still live in rural India - Kangaroo Court!

Child Marriage, Female Foeticide, Honor Killing, Caste-ism, Feudal Culture ... so many issues still popping up like warts from under the skin of "Modern and Incredible India".

You have highlighted the problem, the callousness of the authorities and its impact on the victims quite well.
