Awaiting

So far his son went
Beyond replies to the letters he sent
So away he has gone
Leaving the awaiting alone


Each dusk when the birds fly
Homewards they cry
His wife seeks news
Hoping a familiar view


He tells her to wait
May be their son is late
Some hurdles he may have met
Ultimately to return he must be set


A decade ago they'd bid adieu
With a promise to return in a days few
He'd assured to come back
He'd always remember homeward track


But distant lands and their mystic sands
Lures galore and comforts in hands
He soon forgot those who sought
His side, in their oldness fraught


To this day they wait
Hoping that their son is late
Each knowing the truth within
Their child will no more be seen
