The Fallen

A myna I knew, loved the clouds

She soared high free from doubts

Came an eagle and they tangled mid air

She came tumbling down to the earthen layer

The eagle was gentle so he flew down

To humbly ask for the myna's pardon

The myna quickly forgave

The ignorant eagle took her leave

Watching the eagle fly high

She stood again ready to try

'Twas then she knew that a wing she'd lost

Now all she could do, was hop on dust

With dusk returned the mighty bird

Shocked to see the work of his hand

With the hurting myna he stayed back

Thence every day, dusk and nights black

    1. Hello Sohini,

'M glad that you liked the poem and its ending. The last stanza was penned by me after 12 hours of publishing the poem. Originally it comprised the first three stanzas only as I wanted to keep it sad. But I guess I came around to give it an optimistic ending. Therefore the ending is my fav too.\

Thanks Sohini, and welcome aboard !!!

  3. Good one, and particularly bcoz of its ending. Tragic endings have their charms but nothing beats one that reaffirms our faith in virtues and belief in a just world. M glad u added the 4th stanza.

  20. Nice one Anupam. Very glad to see that you are trying out various things in writing. It needs a stuff and a strong belief that you can. And you are. Thanks for sharing.
So the eagle from that day onwards
Was found next to the little bird.
And gave all that it ever had
To compensate and served as guard

To that little mynah which was
    Hurt unintentionally by it.
    Without thinking twice, it was
The apt decision, that it saw fit.

    We may hurt someone without
    A cause or need, accidentally.
If only we do regret about
And make amends, we get an ally.

Life is a long process in which
You get some friends and foes.
More of first is what we wish,
    Alas! Increasing is our woes.

If we do not hurt others
    Lesser in stature than us,
Chances are, we aren't hurt neither
By those who are stronger than us.
