In every person's life there come certain moments which he treasures forever. Exactly a year ago I was bestowed with such a memorable opportunity.
It was when I was accorded the privilege and joy of hoisting our national flag on Independence Day. It filled me with an extreme sense of patriotism and multiplied manifold times, my reverence for my motherland as I unfurled our Tricolour. This Independence Day too, I hoisted our national flag and sang the National Anthem filled with an overwhelming sense of devotion for my nation.
When I was asked to speak a few lines, I first swore to myself to endeavour harder in doing my share and encouraging other to do theirs, towards fulfilling the dream of our freedom fighters. I requested the small group of police personnel and other employees of the Govt. to not take their duties and jobs for granted. I asked them to be role models for their successors, no matter how small or big they perceive their jobs to be. I tried to encourage them to raise their voice against oppression and injustice, notwithstanding their irrelevance to any such incident. I tried to inspire them by saying that an honest way of life is probably the hardest one in today's time but if it's lived with conviction and moral courage then one can live with dignity and without any regrets. And finally I assured them that if each one of us decides to inspire honesty and sincerity in others by practicing these virtues ourselves then the dream of a just and corruption free society would be achieved without any revolution.
